Longtan Preparatory Granary

Longtan Preparatory Granary, Republic of China era. Located within the campus of Choucang Primary School in Huangfan Village Group, Longtan Village, Xindu Town, Tongcheng City. The structure faces from southeast to northwest, consisting of two courtyards, each seven bays wide. Between the two courtyards, side rooms are built on both sides, each three bays wide. Together with the main courtyards and the side rooms, the building forms a quadrangle courtyard. The main gate of the granary is located on the middle bay of the front courtyard’s northwest side, with walls embedded with one “Protection Donation Stele,” two “Special Donation Steles.” The “Protection Donation Stele” records the amounts of silver dollars donated by various local protection units for the construction of the granary, while the “Special Donation Stele” bears the inscription “The twelfth year of the Republic of China, the lunar year of Guihai, December.” The granary features corridors all around, bluestone column bases, post-and-lintel timber framing, and a roof covered with small tiles, giving it a simple, elegant, spacious, and refined style. According to the “Special Donation Stele” and “Protection Donation Stele” inside the granary, it was built in the twelfth year of the Republic of China by local protection units and gentry to prepare rice for disaster relief and for the construction of bridges and roads.

The Longtan Preparatory Granary is a large-scale structure that has been well preserved. It serves as a physical testament to the economic and social conditions of Tongcheng during the Republic of China era, possessing significant historical and cultural value.
