Yuhang Local Chronicles Museum

The Yuhang Local Chronicles Museum is situated by the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, at the western end of Shuibei Street in Tangqi Town. It is made up of two two-story old buildings in the architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, characterized by white walls and gray tiles, offering a classic and serene ambiance. The museum occupies a land area of 765.56 square meters and a total floor space of 1,286.64 square meters. It is divided into two parts: the Regional Studies Research Center and the Regional Studies Exhibition Center, each housed in one of the historic buildings. The total investment exceeded 12 million yuan.

The Regional Studies Research Center, with a construction area of 533 square meters, is a comprehensive facility dedicated to the collection, preservation, research, exchange, development, and utilization of historical records. The center houses over 800 volumes of local chronicles from 32 provinces (and municipalities) across China, 800 volumes of the "Collected Works of the Complete Library in the Initial Compilation Series," 430 bound photocopies of the complete "Shen Bao" newspaper (including 30 volumes of the index), as well as other ancient local books related to Yuhang. On the first floor of the building, there is a reading room, book storage area, and staff offices, while the second floor features a lecture hall equipped with modern multimedia facilities, suitable for hosting meetings.

The Regional Studies Exhibition Center is located to the west of the Research Center, with a construction area of 753.4 square meters. It is a public educational venue open to visitors and residents. The center is divided into six exhibition halls: “Chronicles · Origins,” “Chronicles · Geography,” “Chronicles · Culture,” “Chronicles · Landscape,” “Chronicles · Products,” and “Modern Chronicles.” Based on the rich historical chronicles of Yuhang through the ages, it introduces the area’s cultural and natural features to visitors from various perspectives and angles through texts, images, multimedia videos, and physical exhibits.
