Qiaosi Massacre Pit

The Qiaosi Massacre Pit is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

The Qiaosi Massacre Pit is located on Baoqing Street in Qiaosi Subdistrict. Dating back to 1938, it is classified as a modern-era significant historical site and representative structure.

On February 18, 1938, over 200 Japanese soldiers stationed in Jianqiao, Linping, Chang’an, along with local troops, carried out a frenzied retaliatory attack on Qiaosi Town, Yuyao County. They conducted an inhuman three-day massacre, killing more than 1,360 residents and burning down over 7,000 houses. The burial site of the victims was marked as the “Wuyin Public Cemetery,” also known as the “Qiaosi Massacre Pit.”

In 2017, the Qiaosi Massacre Pit was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

Protected area: Approximately 30 meters east and west of the Qiaosi Massacre Pit, the southern boundary being the north curb line of the adjacent road, and the northern boundary about 10 meters beyond the pit, covering a total area of 5,295 square meters.

Construction control zone: Extending to the eastern boundary of the plaza paving in the east, the northern curb line of the adjacent road in the south, the eastern curb line of Qumoxi Road in the west, and approximately 60 meters beyond the Qiaosi Massacre Pit to the southern curb line of the adjacent road in the north, with a total area of 14,714 square meters.

Qiaosi Subdistrict: Qiaosi Town is located at the southeastern tip of Yuhang District, bordering Jiubao Town of Jianggan District to the south, adjacent to the Xiasha Economic and Technological Development Zone and Haining City to the east, and connected to Nanyuan Subdistrict of Yuhang to the north. It houses the largest railway marshalling yard in East China, as well as Hangzhou Jianqiao Airport, the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway, the Hangzhou Ring Expressway, and Provincial Highway 01. With convenient transportation, a thriving economy, and high pedestrian traffic, it is known as the “living water port.” The town covers an area of 30.12 square kilometers, governs 12 administrative villages and 1 community, with a total population of 38,200.
