Hua'ao Island

Hua'ao Island is located at the northernmost part of the Shengsi Archipelago. Its shape resembles a soaring seabird, and the island is covered with lush flowers and plants, with beautiful forests and valleys, hence the name Hua'ao (Flower-Bird) Island. As the island is often shrouded in mist year-round, it is also known as Mist Island.

The most famous attraction on Hua'ao Island is the Hua'ao Lighthouse. Renowned as the brightest lighthouse in the Far East and the second brightest in Asia, the Hua’ao Lighthouse was first built by the British during the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty. When night falls, a brilliant white beam shoots from the top of the tower, bringing hope and courage to lost ships.

Other scenic spots on Hua'ao Island include Tiger Cave, Mist Cave, and Monkey Cave, all of which are also worth visiting. It is said that Mist Cave extends all the way to the seabed. Yan Dongya Nan Chang is an excellent spot for watching the waves. Located by the sea, it features fierce winds and towering waves, making for a spectacular sight.

The island is naturally abundant with flowers, including azaleas, lilies, and narcissus, which can be seen everywhere. Especially in spring, the mountain blossoms are vibrant and fragrant. Mussels and groupers can also be found in the crevices along the coastline, making it an ideal destination for hiking, camping, and fishing.
