Lovers' Rock is located in the southwest of the Shengshan scenic area, surrounded by the sea on three sides and backed by mountains, and is one of the most spectacular rock formations in Shengsi.

Two towering rocks stand high—one resembles a fisherman wearing a pine hat, leaning slightly forward as if kissing his newlywed wife goodbye before heading out to sea. It symbolizes the bittersweet parting of lovers, the bride’s longing gaze, and her yearning eyes.

In the island fishing villages, “Lovers' Rock” embodies the longing and hardships of married life for fishermen and their wives. In the past, going out to sea to fish was extremely perilous—for fishermen, the boat was their home and also their gateway to death. Wives would stand on the shore, waiting anxiously for their husbands’ safe return. As a result, there are many other reefs around Shengshan that resemble fisherwomen, which locals call “Waiting-for-Husband Rocks.”
