"Mountain and Sea Spectacular" Stele

The "Mountain and Sea Spectacular" Stele is a cultural tourism attraction.

Also known as the "Five-Li Stele," it is located on a huge rock atop the second main peak of Gouqi Island.

The four characters "Mountain and Sea Spectacular" are bold and powerful. They were inscribed by Hou Jigao, the Zhe Dong Regional Commander of the Ming Dynasty, during one of his naval inspections. After suppressing the Japanese pirates entrenched in Sitan of Shengshan Island in the Wanli era, he ascended to the summit of the Five-Li Stele Peak in high spirits. Gazing out at the vast expanse of sea and sky and the majestic mountain scenery, he wrote the inscription on a whim. The single character "Spectacular" (奇) captures the distinctive natural beauty of the mountains and sea of the Zhoushan Archipelago.

There are also stone carvings such as "Calm Seas Like Silk" and "Tides and Winds Are Clear," all of which stand as historical testimonies to the Chinese nation's defense of its maritime territory.

Transportation

Public Transport: It takes about 40 minutes to walk from Dawang Village to the Mountain and Sea Spectacular. Visitors can take a taxi or hire a car from the city to the scenic area. There are taxis available on Gouqi Island, as well as three-wheeled tractors.
