Dongxi Lühua Island

Covered in willows and abundant with pines and daffodils all year round, Lühua Island is perpetually green—hence its name, which means “Green Flower.” It is located in the northeast of the Shengsi Archipelago.

The island is divided into East Lühua and West Lühua. With few sandy beaches, it mostly features rugged rocks and reefs. Misty Cave, Ape Cave, Heart-Piercing Cave, Pig-Tying Cave, and Grinding Pit Cave appear and disappear in the mist, as if in a fairyland. Large and small exquisite stones and reefs can be seen everywhere.

A 172-meter-long, 5-meter-wide sea-crossing bridge connects the two islands. Like a rainbow suspended between sky and sea, it presents a truly magnificent sight. Local fishermen call it the “No. 1 Bridge of the East China Sea.”

Lühua Island is also a renowned fishing village, producing hairtail, eel, and grouper. In the small bays of Lühua Port, cage farming raises black pomfret, flower pomfret, silver pomfret, tigerhead fish, flower puffer, and large groupers. Visitors can simply take a small boat to the cages, gently tug at the netting or drop some bait—and in an instant, the water splashes as black, white, and colorful fish dart about, wagging their tails in a vibrant display.

The island has two well-known anchorages in the north and south, capable of accommodating hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo ships. An international seafarers’ club is currently under planning to provide leisure facilities for crew members once ships dock.
