Monk's Sleeve Scenic Area

Monk's Sleeve Scenic Area is the most distinctive among the scenic spots on Sijiao Island. During the Tang Dynasty, when the eminent monk Jianzhen was voyaging eastward to Japan and passed through the waters near Shengsi, a young accompanying monk named Xuanneng accidentally fell into the sea and was stranded here for thirty years. To commemorate him, local villagers later named this place "Monk's Sleeve." The scenic area offers a rich variety of tourist attractions, including Monk's Stone, Chaoyang Pavilion, Sea Corner Teahouse, and BuXu Platform. A wooden boardwalk stretches for over a kilometer throughout the entire scenic area. Strolling along the boardwalk with the sea beneath you and waves crashing against the nearby rocks, you’ll be treated to a vivid natural painting of blue sea, golden sands, surging waves, and unique rock formations. Within the scenic area, there is a transparent glass platform extending several meters out from the cliff edge. Standing on the reinforced transparent glass, you look down from over ten meters high at the roaring ocean—your feet seemingly floating in mid-air. The thrill of this experience can only truly be understood by those who have stood on it themselves.
