Sanjiao River Bridge

Sanjiao River Bridge is situated between Shengshan Island, part of China’s famous “East China Sea Fishing Ground,” and Gouqi Island, known as the “Home of Mussels.” It serves as a three-tower, double-cable-plane cross-sea cable-stayed bridge that connects the two islands. The project took 3 years and 9 months from start to completion, and stands as the most costly, technically demanding, and longest-running cross-sea bridge in the county's transportation development. The bridge has a total length of 781 meters, with the main span stretching 685 meters. The main bridge deck is 12 meters wide in total, with a clear width of 9 meters and a clearance height of 14.2 meters. Given its location in the East China Sea, where winds are fierce and waves are rough, most of the major construction work was carried out at sea. The area also features complex hydrological, geological, and meteorological conditions, with significant influence from typhoons and monsoons, while frequent vessel traffic adds to the challenges. Due to these factors, the project was listed by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Transportation as one of the top five most difficult and critical engineering projects in the province.
