The Anchorage Site of Jianzhen’s Eastward Crossing
Historical research shows that the eminent Tang Dynasty monk Jianzhen attempted to cross the sea eastward six times over ten years, all passing through the Shengsi Archipelago. Due to strong winds and rough seas, he anchored twice near islands such as Dabeishan, and only on his sixth attempt did he successfully sail through the Shengsi Archipelago to reach Japan, fulfilling his grand mission. The Anchorage Site of Jianzhen’s Eastward Crossing was built to commemorate this great Tang Dynasty monk for his remarkable contributions to spreading Chinese culture.
