Shenggu Reef is located in the sea to the north of the island, about 250 meters from the main island, covering an area of 7,000 square meters. The access path is rugged with jagged rocks, and there is a sharp rocky peak rising more than four zhang (approximately 13 meters) high. A temple dedicated to Shenggu is built on the island. It is said that the deity worshipped here, Holy Maiden Shenggu, is a guardian goddess who rescues fishermen at sea. Behind the temple, there are three cliff inscriptions featuring large characters such as “群贤毕至” (Gathering of the Learned) and “海宇澄清” (The Sea and Skies Are Clear), which were inscribed during the Guangxu Emperor's reign (1875–1908) by coastal patrol officials and other visitors, showcasing notable calligraphy. Nearby Shenggu Reef are two adjacent reefs known as Zhonggu and Qiangu Reefs, collectively referred to as the Three Maidens Reefs. Viewed from afar, these three formations stand gracefully upright, resembling celestial maidens walking on water. It is a local site of worship.
