Banping Mountain Scenic Area

Banping Mountain Scenic Area is located 3 kilometers south of Dongtou County and 500 meters from Dongtou Port. A local folk song says: “Banping Mountain, Banping Mountain, half in Taiwan and half in the mainland.” The mainland half refers to this very mountain. Covering an area of 0.95 square kilometers, the scenic area features steep cliffs along its eastern coastline, as if carved by a knife or axe, resembling a half-mountain rising thousands of feet sheer from the sea.

The continuous stretch of natural rock carvings along the sea, extending for several kilometers, is unique in the country and hailed as the “No. 1 Marine Cliff of China.” The eastern part of the scenic area boasts vividly shaped attractions such as the Windward Screen, Red Elephant Screen, Drifting Waves Screen, Peacock Screen, Fisherman Sailing, Golden Seal, Shrimp General Rock, and Black Dragon Soaring the Sea — collectively known as four screens and eighteen scenes. Boating among the waves, listening to the surf, and admiring the scenery is truly extraordinary. The western part of the scenic area features the expansive and gently curved Dalongsha Beach, with fine, pure golden sand. It's perfect for shell collecting, exploring marine life, playing, surfing, and more, offering delightful fun. As the poem goes: “Red cliffs float amid blue waters and white clouds, while seagulls dance playfully on the waves. A sight of flat sands worthy of painting — poetic bliss lies drunk on Banping Mountain.”
