The Zhuanglou Fortified Walls and the Zhang Family Tombs

The Zhuanglou Fortified Walls and the Zhang Family Tombs are protected as a Cultural Relics Site under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province.

The Zhuanglou Fortified Walls and the Zhang Family Tombs are located in Zhuanglou Village, Damen Town, Dongtou County, among other sites. The existing structures mainly consist of the Zhuanglou fortified walls, the screen wall of the Zhang family’s rear garden, the tomb of Zhang Ruigu, the tomb of Zhang Diankui, and the tomb of Zhang Tingxuan. The Zhuanglou fortified walls were constructed from locally quarried granite blocks, with a total original length of about 600 meters, of which over 200 meters still remain. The Zhuanglou fortified walls and the Zhang Family Tombs serve as tangible evidence of the maritime trade activities and the heroic resistance against pirates by the coastal island communities of southern Zhejiang in modern times, holding significant historical value for the study of maritime commerce and anti-piracy efforts along the southern Zhejiang coast.
