Dongtou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery

Dongtou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural relic protection unit of Dongtou County.

Dongtou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is located on a hillside to the south of Beiao Town, Dongtou County. Constructed in 1956, it faces north and follows the mountain's contour, built across six levels. The site extends 115 meters in depth and 65 meters in width, covering an area of 7,470 square meters. Along the central axis, there is a wall gate, a pathway, a memorial monument, a memorial tower, and the cemetery itself. The lintel is inlaid with a bronze plaque inscribed with “Martyrs’ Cemetery.” On the pillars on both sides of the pathway are couplets personally written by Guo Moruo: “On the island clouds and winds surge, the revolutionary climax purges filth and illuminates the land of Yu; the Ou River flows day and night, the heroes’ blood forever sets an example in the world.” The memorial monument is 1.5 meters high and 0.7 meters wide, with an inscription in intaglio describing how the People’s Liberation Army liberated the entire Dongtou area on January 15, 1952. The memorial tower is 11.6 meters tall, with eight large characters in a style imitating Mao Zedong’s calligraphy directly inscribed on the front: “For the Country They Fell, Their Glory Shall Last Forever.” The cemetery is laid out in a “品”-shaped, three-tiered formation. It houses the remains of 135 martyrs, with early revolutionary heroes of Dongtou such as Lin Huandao buried in the front row.
