Chen Qi (1878–1925), courtesy name Lanxun, also known as Runzhang, was a native of Fushan, Qingtian County, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Jiangnan Army Officers School and once served as the supervisor of the Hunan Military Preparatory School and commander of the training battalion. In the 30th year of the Guangxu reign (1904), due to his proficiency in English, he was sent by the Qing government to the St. Louis Exposition in the United States to arrange displays of Hunan’s exhibits. The following year, when five senior officials including Dai Hongci and Duan Fang were tasked with an overseas political inspection mission, Chen Qi served as an advisor. After returning to China, he went to Jiangsu to oversee events such as the Nanyang Industrial Exposition and the Jiangnan Park.
