Longyou Tianchi Lotus Scenic Area

Longyou Tianchi Lotus Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The national 3A-level tourist attraction — Tianchi Lotus Scenic Area is located in Hengshan Town, Longyou County. It is the core area of the northern rural leisure tourism route in Longyou and the premium section of the county’s ten-thousand-mu lotus pond. The scenic area includes villages such as Tianchi, Zhitang, Yaotangbian, and Taxiaye, spanning a total area of 26 square kilometers. It features continuous lotus ponds covering 3,000 mu. Every summer, the lotuses bloom leisurely, creating the picturesque scene of “ten miles of lotuses in a unique shade of red,” drawing visitors to Tianchi to revel in this vividly colorful spectacle and immerse themselves in the intoxicating rural scenery.

Longyou County is one of China’s six major selenium-rich bases and also the largest selenium-rich region in Zhejiang Province. “A selenium-rich wellness destination with ten miles of fragrant lotuses,” Tianchi Lotus Scenic Area is not only a heavenly lotus paradise but also a treasured selenium-rich land. The selenium-rich land in the town, centered around villages such as Tianchi and Zhitang, covers an area of 33.46 square kilometers and is abundant in selenium-rich specialty agricultural products such as rice, white lotus seeds, and purple sweet potatoes.

In addition to its exceptional lotus pond scenery, Tianchi Lotus Scenic Area also boasts profound cultural heritage. The scenic area is home to over 30 well-preserved ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, resembling an open-air rural museum. Among them, two nationally key cultural relics protection units stand out: the Sanhuai Hall and the Guanxi Family Mansion. The “Sanhuai Hall,” dating back approximately 400 years, covers a construction area of 842 square meters. The “Guanxi Family Mansion,” built during the Ming Dynasty, is said to have been the residence of descendants of the Song Dynasty’s Yang family generals. It features exquisite brick carvings, complete stone plaques and inscriptions, accurate dating, and holds extremely high artistic value. There are also provincial intangible cultural heritage items such as the “Straw Dragon” and “Longyou Wu Opera,” as well as municipal and county-level intangible cultural heritage listings like the “Imperial Carriage” and “Eighteen Chuan Lang,” along with numerous traditional crafts, cuisines, and folk songs. The scenic area’s host village, Tianchi Village, has been recognized as the second batch of Folk Culture Tourism Villages in Zhejiang Province and the first in Quzhou City. In recent years, CCTV’s program “Country Dates” and Zhejiang TV’s “Mobile Grand Stage – Selenium-Rich Lotus Festival” have been filmed at the Tianchi Lotus Scenic Area.
