Former Residence of Yu Shaosong

The former residence of Yu Shaosong is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

The former residence of Yu Shaosong is located in Longzhou Subdistrict, Longyou County, dating back to the Republican era.

Also known as the Yueyuan Residence, the former home of Yu Shaosong is located at No. 2 Zhujia Lane, Longzhou Subdistrict, Longyou County. It is a typical local double-courtyard horse-galley wooden structure, covering an area of 237 square meters, with a width of 17 meters and a total depth of 13.2 meters. The building faces south and consists of two courtyards and five bays. Originally built by the Wu family clan, it was purchased by Mr. Yu Shaosong for sixty taels (equivalent to sixty dan of rice) during the Republican period. In 1986, it served as the exhibition hall for Yu Shaosong and Hua Gang, and after 1988, it was used as office space for the museum.

On January 13, 2017, it was announced by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province as part of the seventh batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.

Yu Shaosong (1883–1949), styled Yueyuan and also known as Hanke, was a native of Longyou. He graduated from Tokyo Imperial University’s Faculty of Law and Politics. In 1910, he returned to China and was appointed as an official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after passing the imperial examination in law. In 1912, he served as the academic dean and instructor at the Zhejiang Public Law School. The following year, he went to Beijing where he held successive positions including secretary of the House of Representatives, adviser and deputy minister to the Executive Yuan, acting minister, member of the High-ranking Civil Servants Disciplinary Committee, consultant to the Law Revision Office, president of the Beijing Art School, professor at Peking Normal University and Peking University of Political Science and Law, and academic dean of the Judicial Talent Training Institute, among others. Longzhou Subdistrict: [Overview] Longzhou Subdistrict is located in the central-western part of Longyou County. It is the seat of the county government. Covering an area of 61.9 square kilometers, it had a total population of 67,781 people at the end of 2009, including 23,822 rural residents. It administers 5 residential communities and 20 administrative villages. The subdistrict office is located at No. 26 Qinglian Road.
