Shaxi Carved Hall

The Shaxi Carved Hall is a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Shaxi Carved Hall is located in Shaxi Town, Taicang City.

The carved hall, being the eastern chamber of the third courtyard of the ancestral Gong residence, was built during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty. The wooden carvings on the beams inside the hall showcase exquisite craftsmanship, employing a variety of techniques including deep relief carving, shallow relief carving, round carving, and openwork carving.

On October 22, 2002, the Shaxi Carved Hall was announced as part of the fifth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Shaxi Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Taicang City. It is an industrial hub in Taicang. In 1949, it was known as Yinxi Town, renamed Shaxi Town in 1953, came under the administration of Shaxi Commune in 1958, was re-established as Shaxi Town in 1963, and merged with Shaxi Township in 1991. Located in the western part of the city, it is 14 kilometers from downtown. Covering an area of 32.3 square kilometers with a population of 39,000, it is traversed by the Xijin–Shaxi and Zhitang–Luhe highways, and has waterways such as Hengli Pond and Qipu Pond with docks available.
