Taicang Park

Taicang Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The site of Taicang Park was originally the Hai Ning Temple from the Southern Song Dynasty, and before that, it was the Miao Lian Nunnery from the Liang Dynasty, boasting a history of over one thousand years. The park is rich in cultural and historical relics, including the Song Dynasty flower-patterned stone relic "Wanghai Peak," the "Tonghai Spring" dug during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, a large "Iron Cauldron" from the Yuan Dynasty, as well as the "Miao Miao Pavilion."

?m Shan Hall is the main building of Taicang Park, standing nearly 10 meters tall and covering an area of about 300 square meters. The hall features exquisite carvings, with cloud-embracing mountains on the beams and plum and chrysanthemum motifs on the wooden carvings of the crossbeams. The structure is built in the hip-and-gable roof style, with opposing fish-dragon ornaments at the ends of the main ridge, and double lions holding embroidered balls on the sloping ridges—exuding grandeur and majesty.

To inherit and promote the long-standing art of garden design, Taicang Park underwent renovation and expansion in 2003, drawing inspiration from the creative concept of the historically renowned Taicang garden "?m Shan Garden." The project included landscaping with rockeries and water features, planting numerous mature trees, and restoring ancient buildings. Over 20 scenic spots were revived, including "?m Shan Hall," "Jia Shu Pavilion," "Dian Tou Stone," "Fen Sheng Pavilion," "Xiao Fei Hong," and "Jiu Qu Bridge." The park's area expanded from the original 66 acres to its current 110 acres. With a renewed look, it now showcases the charming scenery of Jiangnan-style gardens—bridges over flowing streams, waters surrounded by emerald hues, pavilions and towers, and lush greenery—making it an important tourist destination for exploring the ancient charm of Taicang.
