Taifeng Xilu Ecological Wetland Park

Xilu, also known as Xitian, is located six or seven li outside the west gate of Chengxiang Town in Taicang City. It was a pastoral-style villa built in his later years by Wang Shimin, a renowned painter from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, upon his return to his hometown. The garden is a masterpiece by Zhang Nanyuan, a master landscape architect of the time. The owner often hosted gatherings with literati here, composing poetry and painting, and referred to himself as the “Old Man of Xitian.” In 2009, the Taifeng community revamped “Xilu” and developed the Taifeng Xilu Wetland Park.

With a total investment of 30 million yuan, the project is being implemented in three phases. Currently, the first and second phases are largely completed, forming a “one core, five zones” layout centered around a leisure club, complemented by a leisure resort area, conference and business zone, ecological farming area, green landscaping area, and tourism sightseeing area. Once fully completed, the project will integrate dining, accommodation, entertainment, and leisure functions, further enhancing the supporting facilities of the western urban area, beautifying the city’s “western gateway,” and providing a quality leisure space for residents of Taifeng and surrounding areas.

The park features a rich variety of vegetation, including trees such as poplar, cedar, metasequoia, camphor, and osmanthus, as well as shrubs, vines, flowers, and aquatic plants. The tree canopy undulates, interspersed with open spaces, creating a richly layered landscape.
