The Jiangnan Silk and Bamboo Museum is located on Xinhua West Road in Taicang City, to the east of Zhang Pu’s Former Residence. The complex mainly consists of the Yang Family’s small building from the Qing Dynasty and a series of traditionally styled structures newly built to its south, including the Flower Basket Hall, theater stage, and entrance hall. The entire venue covers an area of 770 square meters, with a building area of 460 square meters. Upon entering through the main gate, visitors will pass through a small courtyard, the entrance hall, the theater stage, another courtyard, a terrace, the Flower Basket Hall, a rear courtyard, and corridors on both sides.

The Jiangnan Silk and Bamboo Museum is a two-courtyard building with a traditional Jiangnan architectural style. Drawing inspiration from the unique latticed windows found in Jiangnan gardens, 16 display panels have been custom-designed in rectangular and octagonal lattice window forms and inlaid within the corridors, integrating the panels seamlessly with the corridor structure. The exhibition content features a wealth of images and artifacts, including traditional Jiangnan folk crafts such as a bronze-relief-style “Portrait of Wei Liangfu” and woodblock-carved “Silk and Bamboo Performance Scene.” These are complemented by decorative wooden carvings and bas-relief patterns.

In the entrance hall, a high-quality imitation rosewood screen, approximately 2 meters high and 2.5 meters wide, has been installed to separate the space from the street outside the main gate. The screen also adopts a traditional style with distinctive Jiangnan characteristics, becoming one of the museum’s highlights. After viewing displays that introduce the origin, development, and legacy of Jiangnan silk and bamboo music through images, text, and artifacts, visitors’ attention is drawn to live performances on the historic theater stage. The fresh, fluid, delicate, and graceful melodies of silk and bamboo music resonate beautifully throughout the museum, enhanced by the acoustic effects of the ornately carved dome ceiling above the stage.

Public Transport: Take bus routes 103 or 124 within Taicang City and get off at Zhang Pu’s Former Residence Station.

Self-Drive: From the Taicang exit of the Suyu Expressway, take Route 339 — head west to Renmin Road, turn left and go south — enter the urban area, turn right onto Xinhua Road, then go west for 500 meters to reach the site. Alternatively, from the Shuangfeng exit of the Suzhou-Kunshan-Taicang Expressway, take National Highway 204 south toward the city center — turn left onto Xinhua West Road in the urban area and go east for 500 meters to arrive.
