Taicang Haitian Chan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Haitian Chan Temple is a large Buddhist monastery that emerged in the new era of China’s reform and opening up. It is located in the center of the Economic Development Zone in Taicang City, Jiangsu Province. Covering an area of over a hundred acres, it enjoys a prime location. Adjacent to the Yangtze River Expressway, it lies to the east by the Yangtze River; to the west it connects with National Highway 204, Kunshan, and Suzhou; to the south it borders the famous city of Shanghai; and to the north it faces Wuxi. It boasts convenient transportation, abundant resources, bustling commerce, and a gathering place of culture and talent.

Haitian Chan Temple was expanded in 1992 on the foundation of a thousand-year-old ancient temple — Hongmiao. Its goal is to build a modern Chinese “Nalanda” centered around a Buddhist monastery, engaging in Buddhist studies, promoting Eastern culture, and integrating the monastery, academy, elderly welfare, and tourist attraction into one. Looking ahead, it is indeed a rare Buddhist destination.

The temple complex includes major facilities such as a grand archway, mountain gate hall, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Guanyin Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Mahavira Hall, Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda, monks’ quarters, a release pond, and landscaped gardens.

Public Transport: Take bus lines 115, 203, or 106 within Taicang City to reach the temple.

Self-Drive Route: Exit at Taicang on the Yangtze River Expressway — head west along the 339 Bypass to Xingye Road, turn left — go south for 2 kilometers, the temple is located on the east side of the road.
