Weixin Site

The Weixin Site is a protected cultural heritage site under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province.

The Weixin Site is an ancient cultural site located in Weixin Village, Shuangfeng Town, Taicang City, Jiangsu Province, covering an area of 60,000 square meters. It was discovered in 2003 during infrastructure construction in Weixin Village at the Jiājiātún earthen mound, after which the Taicang municipal government reclaimed the land and halted the construction. Archaeological research found that the Gāngshēn formation formed around 4000 BCE, marking the first discovery of a Stone Age site in Taicang, significantly pushing back the timeline of the city’s human history. In 2007, a conservation project covering approximately 15,000 square meters was initiated, and a 630-square-meter exhibition hall was built on the site.

The main remains at the Weixin Site include earthen platforms and red-fired earth from the Liangzhu Culture period. Artifacts unearthed include pottery, bone tools, and stone implements. A stone arrowhead discovered in the seventh cultural layer of T1525 test pit, dating to about 2500 BCE, served as a long-range weapon made of rhyolite, with a flat, willow-leaf shape, representing Liangzhu Culture artifacts. Below the layers of red-fired earth in T2413 test pit, a gray pottery jar with geometric impressed patterns was found, dating to around 1800 BCE. Made from washed gray clay, it features an open mouth and upright collar, with shoulder and body adorned by fine, hard geometric patterns—likely a water vessel representative of the Maqiao Culture.

On December 19, 2011, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province listed it as part of the seventh batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Heritage Protection Units.

Shuangfeng Town: Located at the eastern edge of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Development Zone, Shuangfeng Town in Taicang City is a historic town with over 1,700 years of history. It borders Taicang Port in Suzhou to the east, faces the international metropolis Shanghai to the south, and connects to the historic city of Suzhou to the west, enjoying a unique geographical advantage. It lies 20 kilometers from the COSCO International Port of Taicang, 45 kilometers from Shanghai, and 55 kilometers from Suzhou. National Highway 204 runs through the town, while the Shanghai-Jiading Expressway and the Sujiaotai Expressway provide direct access to the town area, ensuring convenient transportation.
