The Nanjing Yan Lugong Ancestral Hall is a memorial hall built in 1998 to commemorate Yan Zhenqing, a renowned statesman and outstanding calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty in China. It is also a cultural heritage site protected by Nanjing City. Currently, the site spans over 1,800 square meters. In addition to the main hall, side halls, east and west wing rooms, and the eight-character wall, all of which have been restored to their original historical appearance, new structures have also been added, including a gatehouse, a Liberation Well Pavilion, and winding corridors. On this basis, the Yan Zhenqing Memorial Hall has been constructed.

The Nanjing Yan Lugong Ancestral Hall is a humanistic memorial that promotes traditional Chinese culture, integrating research, discussion, and exchange of calligraphy art, calligraphy talent training, cultural leisure, and tourism.

The newly built Yan Zhenqing Memorial Hall features secluded pathways and an atmosphere filled with the fragrance of ink. At the entrance of the corridor, a large white marble stone carving bears the inscription “Soul of Calligraphy” written by the renowned female calligrapher Xiao Xian, exuding elegance and emotional impact. Walking along the winding corridor and looking around the surrounding walls, you will find a splendid display of 40 calligraphy stone inscriptions, including 22 inscribed stones created by Japanese calligraphy enthusiasts with unique artistic charm, and 18 inscribed stones featuring masterpieces from distinguished calligraphers of national, provincial, and municipal calligraphy associations in China, all radiating brilliance. Stepping into the side hall, you are greeted by a half-length bronze statue of Yan Zhenqing. In the main hall, a full-body portrait of Yan Zhenqing hangs on the central screen wall, flanked by a couplet written by Shen Peng, then Vice Chairman of the National Calligraphers Association, whose brushwork is vigorous and dynamic. Above, a horizontal plaque inscribed with the words “Sage of Calligraphy” by Zhao Puchu, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, shines brilliantly and is truly awe-inspiring. Other exhibits in the museum, including historical documents, artifacts, stone rubbings, and reproductions, provide a detailed introduction to Yan Zhenqing’s life, political achievements, and exceptional contributions to calligraphy art, offering visitors a refreshing and enlightening experience.
