Former Site of the Capital Hotel

The former site of the Capital Hotel is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The former site of the Capital Hotel is located at No. 178 Zhongshan North Road.

The complex includes two main buildings: the West Building and the East Building. The West Building was built in 1932 (the 21st year of the Republic of China), designed by Tong Yu of the Huagai Architecture Firm, and constructed jointly by Dahua Fuji Construction Company and Chengji Construction Works. It was completed in 1933 (the 22nd year of the Republic of China). The building faces south, has a steel-concrete structure, and features a Western architectural style. It has four stories in the central section and three stories on each wing, making for a very imposing structure. The total floor area is [not specified]. This site was originally the Capital Hotel during the Republic of China era. During the Anti-Japanese War, it served as the headquarters of the Japanese Shanghai Expeditionary Army. After the liberation, it briefly functioned as the Second Guesthouse of the Nanjing Military Region, and was renamed Huajiang Hotel in 1989. It currently belongs to the Equipment Department of the Nanjing Military Region. Located on the north side of the bustling Shanxi Road Square in Nanjing, the buildings enjoy convenient transportation and an elegant environment. They were among the most luxurious foreign-related hotels of the Republican era, often hosting high-ranking Kuomintang officials and international guests. Today, both buildings are well preserved.
