Shizi Mountain is located in Xiaguan District of Nanjing, adjacent to the Yangtze River, with an elevation of 78.4 meters, covering an area of 14 hectares and spanning a perimeter of 2 kilometers. Known as the "Majestic View of Lion Ridge," it is listed among the "Forty-Eight Scenic Spots of Jinling" alongside "Three Stays Cliff" and "Rain over the Longjiang River at Night."

Shizi Mountain features a wealth of cultural landscapes and historical sites. The Shizi Mountain Scenic Area centers around Shizi Mountain, encompassing the mountaintop, slopes, foothills, and a series of cultural attractions in the surrounding area. Specifically, it is anchored by the iconic "Yuejiang Tower," with the mountaintop featuring the Sun Yat-sen River-Viewing Pavilion, ancient artillery site ruins, and a resort; the slopes home to General Xu Da’s Temple, Wanxian Pavilion, and the Lion Character Forest stele inscriptions; and the foothills including the Jinghai Temple, Three Stays Rock, and the Tianfei Palace Stele. Nearby, there are also attractions such as the Xiuhua Park, Xiaotaoyuan Park, Crossing-the-Yangtze Victory Memorial Hall, Bazishan, the former site of the Jiangnan Naval Academy, the former residence of Sun Jinchuan, and the site where the Taiping Army breached the city wall. Additionally, plans include renovating the ancient city walls in the area and restoring the Yifeng Gate. In the future, when visitors wish to ascend Yuejiang Tower to take in the vast Yangtze River and gaze upon the ancient city’s skyline, they will have multiple routes: via the mountain road, along the city walls from Bazishan to the mountaintop, or through a tunnel entrance or by cable car. At that time, the Shizi Mountain Scenic Area will become an integral part of the “Nanjing Bund,” a shining pearl along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Yuejiang Tower will rank alongside Yellow Crane Tower, Yueyang Tower, and Tengwang Pavilion as a renowned tourist destination in Southeast China. Shizi Mountain is covered in lush forests and green lawns, presenting picturesque scenery. After the great Ming Dynasty navigator Zheng He and the eminent pharmacologist Li Shizhen planted and cultivated valuable medicinal plants such as coastal species, sal trees, agarwood, and dragon’s brain incense—imported from overseas—on the slopes of Shizi Mountain, the mountain became even more densely wooded and vibrant, captivating literary figures such as Wang Shouren, Jin Dache, Tang Xianzu, Wu Jingzi, Chen Wenshu, and Gong Zhen, who left behind many widely cherished poems. As a result, during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era, Shizi Mountain was honored as the "Majestic View of Lion Ridge" in the "Forty-Eight Scenic Spots of Jinling" painting scroll.
