Nanjing University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education of China, located in Nanjing, the ancient capital of six dynasties known for its beautiful landscapes and majestic presence. Since its establishment in 1902, it has gone through several phases including the Sanjiang Normal School, Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeastern University, Fourth Zhongshan University, and National Central University; on August 8, 1949, it was renamed from National Central University to National Nanjing University; in October 1950, as per regulations from the Ministry of Education, the word "National" was dropped, and it became simply Nanjing University; in 1952, following the national restructuring of higher education institutions, Nanjing University, after transferring some of its engineering, agriculture, and teacher training departments, merged with the College of Liberal Arts and College of Science from the University of Nanking, founded in 1888, and retained the name Nanjing University. The campus was also relocated from Sipailou to the former site of the University of Nanking in Gulou.

Over the past century, Nanjing University has been home to numerous distinguished scholars and talented individuals who have made outstanding contributions to national rejuvenation and social progress. Renowned figures such as Li Ruiqing, Wu Youxun, Zhu Kezhen, Mao Yisheng, Liu Yizheng, Hu Xiaoshi, Tao Xingzhi, Guo Bingwen, Chen Heqin, Tang Yongtong, Ma Yinchu, Li Shutong, Xiong Qinglai, Tong Dizhou, Jin Shanbao, Wen Yiduo, Zhang Daqian, Xu Beihong, Fu Baoshi, Yan Jici, Wu Jianxiong, Li Guoding, Luo Jialun, Gu Yuxiu, Li Fangxun, Wu Mi, Zhu Guangya, Zhao Zhongyao, Pearl S. Buck, Yang Xingfo, Lü Shuxiang, Liang Xi, Dai Anbang, Chen Bichen, and Kuang Yaming, have studied or worked here. Among the 23 "Two Bombs, One Satellite" meritorious scientists recognized by the central government and the State Council, six are alumni of Nanjing University.

Transportation: Public transport

1. Take the subway: From Sanshanjie Station on Line 1, get off at Zhujiaqiao, then exit from Guangzhou Road, turn right and walk along Guangzhou Road for about 5 minutes to see the entrance to the South Campus of Nanjing University.

2. Buses 1, 33, and Tourist Line 1 can all reach the campus.
