The Purple Mountain Building is located in the Gulou District of Nanjing, situated at Gulou Square, stretching from Zhongyang Road to the east and Beijing West Road to the west. The surrounding area features historical and cultural landmarks such as Xuanwu Lake, Beiji Pavilion, Gulou, and the Ming City Wall; this location is the central point of Nanjing’s main urban area and the city’s highest vantage point, offering panoramic views: to the east you can see Purple Mountain, to the west the Yangtze River, to the south Yuhuatai, and to the north Mufu Mountain.

The Purple Mountain Building is a comprehensive structure primarily used for office purposes, integrating commerce, hotels, sightseeing, conferences, and other facilities. The 72nd floor houses the observation deck, situated 288.6 meters above ground, featuring 360-degree panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass windows that offer sweeping views of Nanjing. Visitors can enjoy a full view of the city from here. The elevators are imported and among the fastest in the world, reaching speeds of 9 m/s, taking just 38 seconds to reach the observation deck. The observation hall also includes a five-star ice drink area, a coffee bar, a souvenir shop, as well as supporting facilities such as a sky post office, writing desks, and photo zones.
