Former Site of the Sino-British Boxer Indemnity Management Board

The Former Site of the Sino-British Boxer Indemnity Management Board is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The Former Site of the Sino-British Boxer Indemnity Management Board is located at No. 124 Shanxi Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The Sino-British Boxer Indemnity Management Board was established in April 1931 as a specialized agency under the Executive Yuan of the Nationalist Government, tasked with safeguarding, allocating, and supervising the use of the Boxer Indemnity funds returned by Britain. Its office building faces south with a northern orientation and features a reinforced concrete beam and column structure. It is designed in the style of traditional Chinese palatial architecture, created by architect Yang Tingbao and constructed by the Kwan, Chu and Yang Engineering Company. The building was completed in 1934 (the 23rd year of the Republic of China). It is a two-story central corridor-style structure with yellow glazed tiles and a hip-and-gable roof. The eaves are wide and sweeping, and the entrance is simplified. The west-facing entrance has a plain and unadorned facade, with the exterior walls clad in maroon-colored face bricks. The building covers a floor area of 721.92 square meters. The first floor houses secretarial offices, reception areas, and miscellaneous rooms; the second floor contains the offices of the chairman and vice-chairman as well as a meeting room; the ground floor is used for storage; and there is a basement near the north exit. The building has undergone several renovations but largely retains its original appearance.

In June 2006, the building was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Nanjing City.
