Former Site of Yu Youren’s Residence

The former site of Yu Youren’s residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

Yu Youren’s residence is located at No. 43 Zhongshan North Road in Nanjing. It was once the former home of Yu Youren, a high-ranking official of the Nationalist government and a renowned calligrapher. This two-story Western-style building was built by Yu Youren himself and is one of his several residences in Nanjing.

The layout of the upper floor remains largely unchanged, with the flooring and glass continuing the original architectural style. Although Yu Youren held a prominent status and had considerable social influence at the time, there are few historical records about this building. It was only discovered by the Gulou District Cultural Bureau through a survey. Currently, it has become an object of cultural relic census, but is not yet a designated cultural relic protection unit. There are six households currently residing in the building. The first floor has been completely altered—the surface paint on the walls is peeling, wooden boards have been damaged by termites, and there are numerous instances of surrounding construction and alterations.

On December 19, 2011, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province designated it as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.
