Site of the Former Sixth District National School

The site of the former Sixth District National School is located at No. 7 Langya Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The building was constructed before 1937 in a Western modern architectural style. The original land was acquired from the Social Affairs Bureau and was used by the Sixth District National School before the liberation, hence it was held in trust as public property. After the liberation, it was used by Langya Road Primary School. The current property owner is Langya Road Primary School.

The Sixth District National School (now Langya Road Primary School) was established in the autumn of 1934. Initially, it covered an area with a construction area of 939 square meters, featuring one two-and-a-half-story building in a Sino-Western hybrid style with 20 rooms, another four-story building, three sections of new-style single-story buildings with eight rooms, one section of old-style single-story building with one room, and two sections of simple single-story buildings with two rooms. It had a Western modern architectural design with gray walls.

Between 1955 and 1959, former Republican-era buildings at No. 12 and No. 14 Lingyin Road, as well as No. 21 Yihelu, were expanded for use as teaching facilities.

Langya Road was originally part of Shanxi Road, so the school was initially named Shanxi Road Primary School. It was later renamed successively as the First Municipal Primary School of Nanjing Special City, the First Model Municipal Primary School of Nanjing Special City, the Sixth District Central National School, Nanjing Langya Road Primary School, and the Affiliated Primary School of Nanjing Municipal Normal School. In 1962, it reverted to the name Langya Road Primary School. In 1981, it was designated as an experimental primary school by the Provincial Department of Education, and in 1987, it became the First Affiliated Primary School of Xiaozhuang Normal School. In 1988, old buildings such as those at No. 12 Lingyin Road were demolished, and a new 2,500-square-meter teaching building was constructed on the site.
