Former Site of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in the Republic of China

The former site of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in the Republic of China is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The former site of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in the Republic of China at No. 3 Nandongguashi is located on a small hillside west of Shanghai Road. The building is a Western-style structure within an independent courtyard, three stories high, featuring a yellow cement-textured exterior wall. It faces south with its back to the north, and has fireplaces built into the walls as well as a gable roof. The building covers an area of approximately 500 square meters. It is currently used as the manager’s office space for the Gunan Hotel and is in relatively good condition of preservation.

According to records, the building was originally private property in Nanjing owned by Zhang Guangxi (the character may be incorrect; to be rechecked), and was later sold to the Royal Netherlands Embassy in the Republic of China to serve as its embassy premises.

On December 19, 2011, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province designated it as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.
