Former Site of the Nationalist Government Officers' Training Corps

The former site of the Nationalist Government Officers' Training Corps is located at No. 1 Wutai Mountain, Gulou District, Nanjing.

The building was constructed in 1934 (the 28th year of the Republic of China) and completed in 1939, featuring a temple-style structure. It consists of two buildings: the "Main Temple" and the "Side Temple", with the main structure covering an area of 480 square meters. The Main Temple has a width of five bays (11.32 meters) and a depth of eight bays (17.28 meters), with 26 red pillars around the interior. The overall architectural style is Japanese-Wa style: black tiles, upturned eaves, red pillars, columned platforms, hip-and-gable roofs, square exterior corridor pillars, and apricot-yellow walls. Japanese military leaders such as Yasuji Okamura and Kesago Nakajima once burned incense and prayed here.

On August 15, 1945, following Japan’s defeat and surrender, the building was abandoned. The Nationalist Government used it as quarters for the Officers' Training Corps, later converting it into the headquarters of the China Boy Scouts. After the liberation, it became the office of the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Commission and the Provincial Sports Federation. In 1980, during the expansion by the Provincial Sports Commission, there were plans to demolish the building. Professor Tong ?? campaigned extensively and ultimately succeeded in preserving it. It now serves as the Senior Cadres Activity Center of the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau.
