Former Residence of Peng Zhaoxian

The former residence of Peng Zhaoxian is located at No. 38, Ninghai Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The building was built in 1934, covering a land area of 233.3 square meters and a construction area of 446.3 square meters. It consists of one two-story building with a total of 13 rooms, designed in a Western modern architectural style, with a brick-concrete structure, grey walls, and a grey sloping roof. The property was originally owned by Chen Yiqing. In December 1946, it was rented by the Central Committee of the Kuomintang, and from 1947 to 1949, it was used by Peng Zhaoxian.

Peng Zhaoxian (1896–1979), courtesy name Junyi, was from Pengjia Village, Wanggezhuang Township, Muping County (now Muping District, Yantai City). He served as the Minister of the Interior of the Kuomintang. In his childhood, he studied at a private school in his village. In 1913, he was admitted to the Muping Normal Training Institute. After graduation, he taught at Magzhuang School. Dissatisfied with the school board, he quit teaching and went to Harbin, where he earned a living by writing letters for people at a stall in front of the Harbin Post Office. Later, he was appreciated by Harbin's Daotai Li Jia'ao and recruited as a clerk. Soon after, the Daotai sent him to study in the Department of History and Geography at Peking University.
