Mao Bangchu's Former Residence

Mao Bangchu's Former Residence is located at No. 1 Luojia Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The building was constructed in 1935 in a Western modern architectural style. Originally owned by Zhang Huazeng, it was occupied by Mao Bangchu before the liberation and is now under the jurisdiction of the provincial affairs administration.

Mao Bangchu (1904–1987), courtesy name Xincheng, was from Yantou Village, Yantou Township (now part of Banxi Town), Fenghua. In 1925, he entered the Infantry Department of the Third Term of the Whampoa Military Academy. During his studies, he participated in the First Eastern Expedition, helping to suppress the rebellions of Yunnan and Guangxi warlords. The following year, he went to the Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow, Soviet Union, for further study. In 1929, he served as the flight team leader of the Aviation Class at the Central Military Academy. The next year, he was ordered to establish an aviation school in Jianqiao, Hangzhou. In early 1931, the school was officially founded, and he successively served as vice principal and principal.
