The Former Residence of Lou Tongsun

The Former Residence of Lou Tongsun is located at No. 88 Shanghai Road, on the eastern side of Shanghai Road along the northern slope of Mount Wutai. It lies northwest of the former residence of John Leighton Stuart and southwest of Taogu New Village. To the south, it is not far from the former U.S. Embassy in China before the War of Resistance. The property is a large, independent compound.

The building was constructed in 1937, faces south, and features a French-style villa design. It is two stories high with a false third floor that includes light-gathering dormer windows. The exterior is finished in yellow roughcast, and the roof is covered with black-gray tiles.

Lou Tongsun (1896–1992), styled Peilan, was a native of Yongkang, Zhejiang. He was born on October 26, 1896. He graduated from the Zhejiang College of Law and Politics and earned a master's degree from the University of Paris in France. He held various positions including Secretary to the Zhejiang Provincial Government, President of the Zhejiang Provincial School of Law and Politics, Academic Dean of Shanghai College of Law and Politics, Head of the Political Science Department at Shanghai Law University, and Academic Dean at the Jiangsu Institute of Administrative Studies. Later, he served as an Executive Committee Member of the Nanjing Municipal Party Department of the Kuomintang.
