Memorial Monument at Yijiangmen Mass Grave Site for Compatriots Killed in the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders

The Memorial Monument at Yijiangmen Mass Grave Site for Compatriots Killed in the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders was erected in August 1985 by the Nanjing Municipal People's Government. It is located near the city wall inside Xiuhua Park in Xiaguan, commemorating the compatriots whose remains were buried here. Inscription on the monument: The area near Yijiangmen was one of the mass grave sites where the remains of compatriots killed in the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese invaders were buried. From December 1937 to May 1938, charitable organizations in Nanjing such as the Chongshan Hall and the Red Cross collected and buried over 5,100 sets of remains in six separate batches, interring them at the foot of the eastern city wall near Yijiangmen and nearby areas such as Jiangjiayuan and Shiliuyuan. This monument is erected to commemorate this event, to console the deceased, and to inspire future generations to remember history and revitalize China.
