Former Residence of Feng Yuxiang in Nanjing

The former residence of Feng Yuxiang is located at No. 21, Ninghai Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. Originally the private residence of Zhu Qizhe, the head of the Finance Department of the Ministry of Railways during the Republic of China period, the building features a two-story Western architectural style. The main structure is a 10-room Western-style house, where Feng Yuxiang later resided.

Feng Yuxiang (1882–1948), originally named Jishan and styled Huanzhang, was a native of Chaohu, Anhui, but was born in Xingji Town, Qingxian County, Hebei Province. In the tenth year of the Guangxu reign (1884) during the Qing Dynasty, he moved to Baoding with his father and grew up in Xikanggezhuang Village in the eastern suburbs of Baoding. Coming from a poor family, he joined the Baoding Fifth Battalion as a soldier in the twenty-second year of Guangxu (1896), and transferred to the Right Division of the Wuwei Army in the twenty-eighth year of Guangxu (1902). He held various positions such as squad leader, company commander, and battalion commander. In the third year of the Xuantong reign (1911), following the outbreak of the Wuchang Uprising, he joined Wang Jinming, Shi Congyun, and others in raising an armed response in Luanzhou.
