Former Residence of Zhu Jiahua

The former residence of Zhu Jiahua is located at No. 17 Chibi Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The building was constructed before 1937 in a Western modern architectural style. It was originally self-built by Li Ximou, then Director of the Shanghai Municipal Education Bureau and a delegate to the National Assembly, during his tenure. It was later gifted to Zhu Jiahua for his residence.

Zhu Jiahua (1893–1963), courtesy names Liuxian and Xianglin, was a native of Xiaogangli Village (now Xiaogang Village, Baique Township, Huzhou) outside Beimen in Wuxing. In the third year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1911), he studied at the German Medical School of Tongji University in Shanghai (now Tongji University). During the Xinhai Revolution, he served as the Hankou representative of the “Chinese Dare-to-Die Corps.” After graduation, he went to Germany to study at the Berlin Mining University. He returned to China in 1917 and taught German at Peking University. Later, he received a government scholarship from the Ministry of Education to study geology in Switzerland, then transferred to the University of Berlin in Germany, where he earned a doctoral degree.
