Former Residence of Wang Wenyan

The former residence of Wang Wenyan is located at No. 15, Taogu New Village.

In late 1945, Wang Wenyan purchased a 700-square-meter plot of land in the name of his son, Wang Zude. He built one Western-style brick-concrete building, one Western-style bungalow, one air-raid shelter, as well as simple houses and a small garden, with a total construction area of about 400 square meters. He lived there himself before the liberation; after the liberation, the property was placed under the management of the Municipal Housing Authority as the owner was not in Nanjing. Currently, the site still retains one main building, one bungalow, one air-raid shelter, and one garden. The main building faces south, has a faux three-story structure, features a beige exterior wall, a hip roof, and green tiles. The northern bungalow consists of four rooms, with a blue brick exterior, a gable roof, green tiles, and dormer windows. The garden includes rockeries, stone bridges, flowers, and trees. Both the buildings and the surrounding environment are well preserved.

Wang Wenyan, whose birth and death years are unknown, also known as Renjun, was from Xingyi, Guizhou. He was the brother-in-law of He Yingqin and a graduate of the first class of the Whampoa Military Academy. He completed the English Specialization Program at Shanghai Datong University and graduated from Class 13 of the Regular Session of the Army War College.

In the spring of 1924, he went to Guangzhou and was admitted to the fourth squad of the first class of the Whampoa Military Academy through the introduction of Li Liejun. Later, he served as an attendant in the office of the military academy, adjutant at the headquarters of the Instructional First Regiment, platoon leader of the Party Army First Regiment, captain of the Whampoa Military Academy Cadet Corps, battalion commander (major) of the First Regiment of the National Revolutionary Army, and regimental commander (colonel) and later brigadier general of the Special Service Regiment at the Headquarters of the Eastern Route Army of the Northern Expedition.
