Former Residence of Gu Zheng Lun

The former residence of Gu Zheng Lun is located at No. 9 Renhe Street, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The building was constructed in 1946 (the 35th year of the Republic of China). It was originally used as a dormitory for the U.S. Embassy. In 1948 (the 37th year of the Republic of China), Gu Zheng Lun purchased the property under the name of his son, Gu Tongsheng. The site covers an area of 1,642 square meters, with a built-up area of 449.3 square meters. It is a two-story building combining Chinese and Western architectural styles, facing north-south, with a brick-concrete structure and a yellow cement textured exterior wall. The roof is covered with blue cylindrical tiles. The courtyard is lush with green tung trees and cedars, and abundant with flowers and plants.

Gu Zheng Lun (1890–1953), courtesy name Jichang, was from Anshun, Guizhou. He graduated from the Guizhou Army Primary School in 1906. In 1908, after graduating from the Third Wuchang Army Middle School, he went to Japan on a government scholarship to study at the Shimbu Gakko military school, where he soon joined the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance (Tongmenghui). In 1926, he served as the Deputy Commander and Commander of the 1st Brigade of the Independent 2nd Division of the National Revolutionary Army, leading troops during the Northern Expedition to capture Jiujiang. In 1932, he was appointed as the General Commander of the Capital Garrison, the Commandant of the Gendarmerie (with the rank of Lieutenant General), and the acting Mayor of Nanjing.
