Former Residence of Tang Enbo

The former residence of Tang Enbo is located at No. 5, Luojia Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The building was constructed in 1935 in a Western modern architectural style. It consists of one main building of three partial floors with 12 rooms, and three sections of modern-style single-story houses totaling 10 rooms. The walls are red, and the roof is gray. The property was originally self-built by Lin Wanwen. In 1946, when Tang Enbo served as Deputy Commander of the Army and concurrently Commander of the Nanjing Garrison, he purchased it from Lin in the name of his wife, Wang Jingbai, for his own residence. After the liberation, it was used by the Southwest Service Corps and the Administrative Office of the Third Field Army Headquarters, and is now under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Administrative Bureau.

Tang Enbo (September 20, 1898 – June 29, 1954) was a Lieutenant General of the Republic of China Army, hailing from Jinhua, Zhejiang, and a key leader within the Whampoa clique. After the outbreak of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in July 1937, he commanded his forces in resisting the Japanese offensive in the Nankou area, inflicting heavy damage on the enemy. In October, he was appointed Commander of the 20th Army Group of the National Revolutionary Army. The following March, he led his troops in the Battle of Taierzhuang, achieving a major victory. In June, he became Commander-in-Chief of the 31st Army, subsequently participating in the Battle of Wuhan and the Suizao Campaign.
