Former Residence of Zhou Zhaotang on Ningxia Road

The former site of Zhou Zhaotang’s mansion is located at No. 6 Ningxia Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province (formerly No. 4-1 Ningxia Road).

The building was constructed in 1937 (the 26th year of the Republic of China), covering a total area of 679.1 square meters. It is a three-story Western-style structure with a brick-concrete frame, facing north-south, and was leased by the French Embassy from 1947 to 1949.

Zhou Zhaotang (1901–1973), graduated from the Ordnance Department of the Whampoa Military Academy’s second term, also known by his courtesy name Feiting, was a native of Zhuji, Zhejiang. He graduated from the Army Party Affairs Research Class of the Central Political School. He successively served as a lieutenant clerk at the Whampoa Military Academy Provincial Office, a captain ordnance platoon leader of the 2nd Regiment, 2nd Division, 1st Army of the National Revolutionary Army, a section chief at the Headquarters of the National Revolutionary Army Generalissimo’s Ordnance Directorate, and director of the Changsha Ordnance Sub-Directorate. He participated in both the Eastern Expeditions and the Northern Expedition.
