Former Residence of Huang Qixiang

The former residence of Huang Qixiang is located at No. 11-6, Shanghai Road, Gulou District.

This building was purchased by Huang Qixiang on November 10, 1948, for 40,000 gold yuan under the name of his wife, Guo Xiuyi. The site covers an area of 945 square meters and originally included one three-story Western-style brick-concrete building, one two-story building, and one single-story house. After the liberation, the property was used by relevant provincial units. Currently, only one building remains on the site. This building faces south, has two stories, features gray brick exterior walls, a hip roof, blue tiles, and wooden doors and windows. Its construction area is approximately 280 square meters.

Huang Qixiang (1898–1970)

Huang Qixiang, originally named Qixiang and styled Yuxing, was from Meixian County, Guangdong Province. Born into a poor farming family, he studied at Wuben School in Meixian and the affiliated middle school of the Guangzhou Advanced Normal School in his early years. In 1912, the first year of the Republic of China, he was admitted to the Whampoa Military Primary School in Guangzhou. Later, after attending the Second Army Preparatory School in Wuchang, he enrolled in the Artillery Department of the Baoding Military Academy. He graduated the following year and was assigned as a platoon leader in the Artillery Regiment of the First Border Defense Division of the Anhui Clique warlord Duan Qirui. He was later transferred back to the Baoding Military Academy as a section leader.
