Pan’an Lake Wetland Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a national water conservancy scenic area, and a national wetland park.

The Pan’an Lake Ecological Wetland Park is a key project under Xuzhou’s “Three Major Initiatives and One Major Project” initiative and a flagship urban construction project. It is also the top-priority development project for the economy and society of Jiawang District. It is the first of its kind in the province to integrate “reconstruction of basic farmland, rehabilitation of coal mining subsidence areas, ecological environment restoration, and wetland landscape development.” It has not only created a milestone project in the national effort to manage coal mining subsidence but also set an exemplary model for ecological environment restoration and redevelopment in resource-depleted cities, making it a nationally significant project. It is located 15 kilometers from the central urban area of Jiawang, 18 kilometers from downtown Xuzhou, and just 10 kilometers from Xuzhou High-Speed Railway Station. Connected to National Highways 206, 310, and 104, it lies west of the Beijing-Fuzhou Expressway. The newly built Xuzhou–Jiawang Expressway runs through the scenic area, and it takes only 8 minutes to drive from the park to Xuzhou’s new urban district. With excellent geographical advantages and transportation access, it falls within Xuzhou’s one-hour weekend leisure circle.

Located over 20 kilometers northeast of downtown Xuzhou, Pan’an Lake Wetland Park is a wetland park transformed from a former coal mining subsidence area. The park features expansive lakeshores covered with lush aquatic plants and dotted with small islands planted with various flowers, trees, and grasses. In spring, the islands bloom with a riot of colors, while in summer, lotus flowers and water lilies flourish. It’s an ideal destination for a relaxing weekend getaway. Visitors can stroll along the lakeside boardwalks, enjoy the lake breeze, take photos, and unwind. The park is also popular among cycling enthusiasts who often ride around the lake.

The main entrance to the wetland park is situated on National Highway 310. Upon entering, you’ll arrive at the main island, which is connected to the mainland by a road. To the east of the main island is Loquat Island, and to the west is Hani Island—both are also connected to the main island by pathways. All three islands can be explored on foot, and they are well-vegetated. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some waterfowl.

To visit more distant areas, you’ll need to take a sightseeing boat or shuttle bus, as walking would be too time-consuming. Boat rides cost 40 RMB, while shuttle buses are 20 RMB. The routes are similar, so you can choose either. The boat stops at the Taxodium Forest and Bird Island. After disembarking and exploring, you’ll wait at the dock for the next boat to your next destination. The shuttle bus stops at the Taxodium Forest and Pan’an Ancient Village Island before returning to the main entrance. Both the boat and the shuttle bus stop at the Taxodium Forest; however, the boat does not go to Pan’an Ancient Village Island, and the shuttle bus does not go to Bird Island.

The Taxodium Forest is a great spot to enjoy the wetland scenery. Bird Island is home to animals that kids love, such as peacocks, ostriches, and turkeys. Pan’an Ancient Village Island features traditional-style streets, architecture, and temples, offering a glimpse into local folk culture. Taking the boat is recommended—it’s a unique experience to admire Pan’an Lake from the water, especially appealing for families with children since it stops at Bird Island.

Bicycle rentals are available at the main entrance of the wetland park. The deposit is around 300 RMB, and hourly rates vary by bike type, ranging from 20 to 50 RMB. Since Pan’an Lake is quite large, circling the lake covers approximately 11 kilometers, requiring both stamina and time.

The main island within the park houses the Xuzhou Fuxi Wetland Holiday Hotel, where visitors can stay overnight.

Special Notes

1. The intervals between boat and shuttle bus services are relatively long, especially on the islands, so you may need to wait for extended periods. Please be prepared.

2. Food options within the scenic area are limited, so it’s advisable to bring your own snacks.
