Dongyuan Village High-Level Canal

Dongyuan Village High-Level Canal is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Lianyungang City.

Dongyuan Village High-Level Canal is located to the south of Dongyuan Village, Nangang Township, Guanyun County, Lianyungang City. The canal stands 17.4 meters high, with a pump outlet channel width of 5 meters. The main structure is supported by 15 square stone piers, each measuring 1×2 meters, and features 14 arched bridge openings spaced 9 meters apart. Each pier also has three small circular holes at the top. The entire stone canal is built with block stones, and including the above-ground section, it has a total length of 400 meters. The pumping station is equipped with three high-lift pumps, drawing water from a depth of 1.6 meters and delivering it to a height of 19 meters, plus an additional 5 meters through secondary and tertiary pumping. A rural road runs beneath the high-level canal, with farmland surrounding the area.

Construction of the Dongyuan Village High-Level Canal project began in 1977 and was completed in November 1979, built through the collective manpower and financial resources of the entire township. Today, both the high-level canal and the three-tier pumping station are well-preserved and still in use, effectively addressing local irrigation and drinking water needs for people and livestock. The Dongyuan Village High-Level Canal stands as one of the remarkable engineering feats of its time, reflecting the era’s ethos of “man can conquer nature.”
