Xiangshan National Mine (Geological) Park

“Xiangshan National Mine (Geological) Park” is located in the northern part of the county urban area, on the right side of the Huaihe River Bridge, covering a project area of 2 square kilometers. Originating from the Xiangshan building materials mine, it is a century-old open-pit quarry that has been extracting construction stone since the late Qing Dynasty. The mining area was closed in 2002 and has since fully entered the stage of geological and ecological environment restoration and management, with continuous improvements in results. By the end of 2005, this restoration area was listed as a key tourism development project during Xuyi County’s 11th Five-Year Plan period, and was also approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources as a national-level mine park development project.

The project mainly includes: relying on the Huaihe River scenery and the ecological restoration of the mine, focusing on the protection and display of mining and geological heritage, and following the construction layout of “one core, one museum, and five zones (entrance distribution and management center, mine geological museum, mining geological heritage exhibition area

, riverside water-friendly garden area, stone pit water recreation area

, cliffside adventure sports zone, and mine ecological restoration zone),” to build the park into a well-known national-level mine (geological) park in East China that integrates “mining culture, science education experiences, sightseeing, extreme sports, and leisure vacation.”

Currently, the project has largely completed the ecological restoration of the abandoned mine, the construction of the riverside water-friendly garden, and the cultural park of unusual stones. Part of the protection and exhibition work of mining and geological heritage has been finished. Key structures at the main entrance of “Xiangshan National Mine Park,” such as the rockery landmark, entrance plaza, mine geological museum, giant quarry pit water recreation area, and various mining-themed sculptures are under construction. The inner and outer loop roads within the park have had their foundations laid, with ongoing work on later-stage hardening. A total of over 20 million yuan has been invested in construction so far.
