Xuyi Tieshan Temple Science Park

Xuyi Tieshan Temple Science Park is a cultural tourism attraction and a science education base.

Xuyi Tieshan Temple Science Park is located within the Tieshan Temple Nature Reserve, a national forest park. The park covers an area of 10,000 square meters, with a building area of 1,200 square meters. It features a sundial, an astronomical demonstration hall, an astronomy photo exhibition hall, a butterfly exhibition hall showcasing rare species from around the world, a Moon-Kissing Hall, a lecture hall, and more. It also houses tens of thousands of astronomical knowledge images and a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope imported from the United States, making it one of the most advanced astronomical science parks in China.

In 1998, considering the severe light pollution in Nanjing, the Chinese Academy of Sciences dispatched multiple experts to select potential sites across the country through a lengthy site-selection process. Eventually, Paomashan stood out due to its fresh air, excellent seeing conditions, high sky transparency, absence of atmospheric pollution, minimal interference, and a quiet working environment. In 2000, the foundation stone for the observation base was laid on the mountain’s summit. As a key project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Xuyi Tieshan Temple Observation Station of the Purple Mountain Observatory will house seven telescopes upon completion. The largest near-Earth object observation telescope in Asia and the third largest in the world will also be stationed on the mountain. At that time, Xuyi Tieshan Temple will gain worldwide recognition.
