The Xuyi Huai River Stone Embankment Ruins are a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The Xuyi Huai River Stone Embankment Ruins are located on the eastern bank of the Huai River, north of Xuyi County, in the area around Old Boat Pond, Front Street, Wharf Street, and North Gate Street. To defend against Huai River floods, Xuyi has built protective city embankments multiple times throughout history. The existing stone embankment was constructed during the Ming and Qing dynasties, stretching approximately 750 meters in a northeast-southwest direction, and is built from interlocking long stone slabs. The Ming and Qing Huai River stone embankment ruins in Xuyi served both flood prevention and city defense functions. They serve as important historical evidence of changes in the Huai River’s water level and course, and hold significant value for the study of Huai River management, the formation history of Hongze Lake, and the urban evolution of Xuyi.
