Sutong Bridge — Located in the southeastern part of Jiangsu Province, it connects the cities of Nantong and Suzhou. It lies 82 kilometers west of the Jiangyin Yangtze River Highway Bridge and 108 kilometers east of the Yangtze River estuary. The construction section is situated in the Chengtong reach of the Yangtze River, which features a mixed river pattern of meandering and branching. The planform presents an S-shaped curve, with alternating wide and narrow water surfaces, and well-developed sandbars in the river channel, featuring deep troughs and wide shoals, with the deepest point reaching nearly 50 meters.

. The western section near TianSheng Port is about 6 km wide, then gradually expands, reaching approximately 10 km wide near Junshan, and up to 14 km wide at the bend of Dongfanghong Farm. Further downstream, it suddenly narrows, with the eastern bridge section — near the Xuliujing node — being about 6 km wide. The northern bank of Sutong Bridge connects to the Yancheng–Nantong Expressway, Nanjing–Nantong Expressway, and Tongqi Expressway, while the southern bank links to the Suzhou–Jiaxing–Hangzhou Expressway and the Riverside Expressway.

Spanning Nantong and Changshu in Suzhou, Sutong Bridge lies 82 kilometers west of the Jiangyin Bridge and 108 kilometers east of the Yangtze River estuary. The project has a total length of 32.4 kilometers and consists of three parts: the river-crossing bridge, and the north and south approach roads. The river-crossing bridge, which includes the main span, dedicated navigation channels, and the north and south approach bridges, is about 8,200 meters long. Once completed, it will become the first major bridge over the Yangtze River and will set four world records in bridge construction history: the largest main span, longest cable, largest cluster pile foundation, and tallest tower. The main span of the bridge is 1,088 meters, ranking first in the world. As the world’s widest-span cable-stayed bridge to date, Sutong Bridge will go down in history. Therefore, Feng Maorun, Chief Engineer of the National Ministry of Transport, said that Sutong Bridge is a landmark structure marking China’s transition from a “major bridge-building nation” to a “bridge-building superpower.”
